01. Sacred Architecture & Spiritual Tranquility
Designing a Masjid requires harmonizing sacred Islamic architectural traditions with structural clarity, acoustic serenity, and passive climatic comfort. Commissioned for a 2 Kanal corner site on Toba Road, Kamalia, the Jamia Masjid Al-Noor Architectural Complex reinterprets regional brick-and-stone heritage through a bold, geometric brutalist vocabulary.
Rather than relying on heavy ornamental plasterwork that deteriorates in extreme weather, Areesh Architecture & Builders sculpted the building's spiritual atmosphere using natural daylight, structural geometry, and breathable GRC (Glass-Fibre Reinforced Concrete) jaali screens.
02. Uninterrupted Saff Alignment & Structural Waffle Grid
In congregation prayer, internal columns disrupt the continuity of prayer rows (saffs) and block sightlines toward the Mimbar and Mihrab:
- 60'-0" × 60'-0" Column-Free Main Prayer Hall: Engineered with a two-way reinforced concrete coffered waffle slab (
900mmstructural depth on a1.5m × 1.5mmodule). The structural coffers serve a dual purpose: carrying the expansive roof span while naturally diffusing sound waves to eliminate harsh echo during Khutbah and Tilawat. - Qibla Zenithal Light Slot: The western Qibla wall is constructed as a double-cavity insulated thermal barrier, topped by a narrow linear skylight that washes the hand-carved sandstone Mihrab in calm, indirect zenithal daylight without admitting heat or glare.
- Covered Verandah (Sehan) & Mezzanine: An intermediate arched colonnade transitions worshippers from the open courtyard into the main hall, while an elevated mezzanine accommodates women's prayer classes and Ramadan Taraweeh overflow.
03. Environmental Systems & Ablution (Wuzu) Planning
| Functional Zone | Architectural & Engineering Specification | Operational Impact |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| Ablution (Wuzu) Pavilion | Segregated from the prayer hall via a ventilated breezeway; 32 ergonomic granite seats with non-slip bush-hammered flooring | Prevents humidity or sound from entering the prayer sanctuary |
| Greywater Recovery | Sub-surface sand-and-gravel bio-filtration pit capturing ablution water | Irrigates the surrounding date palms and shaded courtyard planters |
| Passive Cooling Towers | Twin solar-induced wind-catcher shafts integrated into the corner turrets | Exhausts warm stratified air from the ceiling coffers continuously |
| 92-Foot Sculptural Minaret | Octagonal-to-square tapered RCC shaft with integrated acoustic horn array and lightning arrestor | Serves as a dignified visual landmark across the neighborhood skyline |
04. Community Legacy
